Back in 2016, my skin kind of went crazy on me. Stress was causing me to breakout and in response I went into full-on attack mode with harsh products containing benzoyl peroxide and salicylic acid. For a few months prior to this, my skin had been telling me something: I’d wake up in the morning and my eyelids would be puffy or my neck would be itchy, etc. Forward to January 2016. I went to bed after doing my usual medicated skincare routine and woke up in the middle of the night itching at my throat. I rinsed my face, took a Benadryl, and tried to go back to bed. When I woke up in the morning, my face was in the midst of full-blown allergic. I took more Benadryl and went to class (as it turns out Benadryl & statistics exams don't mix). As I was driving home, it became hard for me to breath. I started to hyperventilate and my legs, hands and face went numb. I ended up in the hospital on a heavy IV of Benadryl and the steroid Prednisone (Scary stuff. I refused to take any more of the 10-day cycle after the initial dose.)
The whole experience scared the heck out of me. I wanted clear skin, but I didn’t dare use anything medicated of any kind. I don’t have acne, but my skin does have the typical hormonal breakouts and an occasional under the skin cyst (aka the devil's curse). I did a lot of research on skincare products that had natural ingredients, but would still be effective enough to combat my 20-something, hormonal skin. That’s when I stumbled upon Elemis and fell in love!
I’ve tried a ton of different products from Elemis' various lines and have loved them all to varying degrees. Because the products are based in natural ingredients, even if the product I was trying wasn’t exactly right for my skin type (i.e. didn’t address my dry skin, hormonal zits, etc.) I didn’t have to worry about any side effects or allergic reactions.
My current favorites, posted below, include products from their pro-collagen and dynamic resurfacing lines, with a few products from other lines thrown in! Some of their products can get a little spendy, but they’ve worked wonders for my skin and I’m a staunch advocate for investing in skincare. Clear and glowing skin means less of a need for heavy face make-up, which I’m ALL about!
If you’re looking for a more natural approach to skin care, give Elemis a try and let me know your thoughts!
XOXO, Paige
