Genre Spotlight: The Classics

Updated: Jun 3, 2019

Oh the classics! This is going to be part one of what will likely be a 5+ part series. One blog post simply can't cover or do justice to the classic novels!

I love all books, but there's something about the classics that causes major nostalgia. Books like The Little Princess, Anne of Green Gables, and The Secret Garden bring me to when I was little and my Dad would read to me each night. Re-reading To Kill a Mockingbird, Romeo and Juliet, or The Taming of the Shrew will instantly make me think of sitting in Mrs. Tracy's 8th grade English class. Titles like The Great Gatsby, The Grapes of Wrath, and Mrs. Dalloway bring me back to High School.

I had fabulous English teachers all throughout my schooling, but High School was where I stopped just being passionate about reading books and started being passionate about dissecting and discussing them; breaking down their characters and understanding plot development, theme, writing style, etc! The stories and characters of 'the classics' are just so complex, unique and beautifully written. I can read the books I listed below over and over and never tire of them. Part 2 coming soon!

Are you a fan of the classics?! Tell me some of your favorites in the comments below!
