I LOVE Poshmark. I was first introduced to Poshmark in the Summer of 2017 and, as dramatic as this may sound, it has totally changed my life! I was a bit of an "emotional hoarder". That, coupled with the fact that I was really bad about shopping throughout college, didn't equal good things for my closet and life organization. I had a ton of stuff hanging in my closet that I wore once or not at all and still had tags on. I had a tendency to hold on to EVERYTHING! Everything had a memory or some sentimental value attached to it, which made it hard for me to get rid of things. When you spend money on something, even if you never end up wearing it, it’s hard to give it away. Much easier just to say "I'm going to hold onto this because maybe it'll come back into style, maybe I'll be able to fit into it again, what if I end up needing it one day, etc."
Poshmark offered the perfect solution; you're making money for your clothes and the thrill of a sale made it that much easier for me to part with my things. The Poshmark community is amazing; people who sell on there are so supportive and love seeing other people reach their sales goals. The community ranges from those passive sellers who are just trying to get their closet cleaned-out and make a few bucks to full-time resellers who thrift and re-sell and have turned Poshmark into their career. I fall somewhere between those two. Because of my shopping addiction/hoarding, I had a large amount of inventory to start selling with and once I got that all posted, I was on my way!
As my sales started to come in, my addiction to selling grew! You'll hear that from a lot of people who use Poshmark. Whether you're selling to add to your savings or selling to make some money for a new purchase, nothing is more satisfying than seeing the green dollar sign next to a 'sold' listing! As I started to sell more and more, I became much more organized with my approach to selling. I stored and organized items up for sale in a separate closet (this was pre-move to NYC when I had an excess of space.*sigh* those were the days!) and kept shipping supplies on hand. I also worked hard to gain 'Posh Ambassador' status, which also helped me gain followers and drive eyes to my closet.
The majority of my inventory is back in Minnesota, but now that I'm settled in NYC I'm ready rent a storage unit near my apartment and ship it out here. It's hard to live without selling on Poshmark, so in the meantime I've satisfied myself with simply shopping on Poshmark - You can find the BEST. DEALS. EVER. on there!
I’m not one of those people who gets cult-y over products or services (i.e. Rodnan fields and stuff like that). But Poshmark really is incredible. I’ve made a significant amount of money in just a couple of years from selling brands like Free People, Show Me Your Mumu, J. Crew, etc. The Poshmark app is extremely user friendly, but driving sales can require some work because the app has an algorithm. I'm working on a post of all the tips and tricks I've learned along the way, as well as my must have Poshmark items, so keep an eye out for that!
Do you sell/shop on Poshmark? Drop your closet name in the comments so I can browse! My closet is @paigegoesposh. Happy selling!
XOXO, Paige
